Views on Feminsm in the Media (Is this the 4th wave?)

Feminism is still a word, not a lot of people really understand. The misconception that women who are feminist will be; unshaved, a bit manly and mostly a bitch, is wide spread. These ideas are changing. So feminst isn’t a bad word anymore… a few views on feminism in todays populair culture.

#twerking
Miley Cyres calls herself one of the biggest Feminist of the world. Even though I will not discuss if this is a misconception or not, the idea of her grabbing her genitals is not that different from a guy grabbing his. It still makes the same selection of a guy being a player and a girl being a slut. What do you think?

#yesallwomen
Another promotion of Feminsm, through popular media, is the sign of Beyonce on her show during the MTV VMA's
In the US Vogue, beyonce called herself a modern day feminst. In this same interview, she professeses to the need for equality in pay and respect, between men and women

#slutspecial
In november 2013 de slettenspecial (the slutspecial) of Volkskrant Magazine came about. This magazine had an interview with journalist, writer and documentarymaker Sunny Bergman. She told us about her new book and documentary and proposed the following question; do you feel the freedom to do whatever you want in a sexual sense?

She filmed the reactions of men and women on questions about sexuality. This made visible that woman still consider being a slut a bit scary word. So retracting the complete freedom of their sexuality.

Still a big difference between woman and man.

The question erects (no pun), what is Sunny Bergman trying to let us be? Should we Be more like man, so man-feminisme or will this be conformisme?
Because feminism is build on not having class differences between man and woman, that doesn’t mean everyone should act the same. And keep the freedom you want/need in gender en people in general.

#heforshe
An interesting video popped up this last week with Emma Watson presenting in front of the UN, she presented the gender inequality project #heforshe .

A powerful campaign, with a story that is probably long overdue.

Miss Watson Respectfully explains the need for man to stand up for their mothers, sisters, wives, girlfriends, daughters and friends. And to make a stand for real Gender Equality.

Watch the video here, Emma Watson is outstanding

A lot of interesting views of Feminsm are popping up, so Feminsm is a hot topic. Could we call this the fourth Feminst wave?
